Overview

Founded in 2002 by Der Kaktus and Jugendkulturhaus Cairo, the Würzburger Improtheaterfestival has grown into one of Europe's largest improvisational theatre festivals. Each October, around 100 improvisers from around the world gather in Würzburg to train with international faculty and perform across multiple venues throughout the city. The festival is now run by a volunteer-led association, Würzburger Improtheaterfestival e.V., and presents the full range of improvised theatre, from experimental work to classical formats.

The 24th edition runs October 22 - 25, 2026. Workshop faculty includes Gunter Lösel and Nicole Erichsen (Karlsruhe / Zurich), Pippa Evans (London), and Antonio Vulpio (Bologna). Signature recurring programs include Maestro and the international Collab:Lab.

Submissions

Show and workshop applications for 2026 are accepted via lottery between May 8 and May 17, 2026, through the festival's show submission form and workshop submission form.
