Improvizza! is Malta's first international improv theatre festival, held annually in September in Valletta. The festival is small and curated, bringing together international improv teachers and performers for workshops and shows open to all. Its mission is to "create a space that welcomes everybody, while at the same time recognizing and celebrating our differences, and that brings together improvisers from all over the world."
The festival takes place at Spazju Kreattiv, a cultural hub in Malta's capital city, with some workshops also held at Room 3A in the Manoel Theatre Block. Programming includes 10-hour, 5-hour, and 3-hour workshops at various skill levels, evening performances showcasing different improv styles, and jam sessions on three of the four festival days. An interactive clash-free schedule builder is available at improvizza2026programme.lovable.app. Ticket prices range from 10 to 25 EUR per day.
The 2026 edition is supported by Spazju Kreattiv (celebrating its 25th Anniversary), Arts Council Malta, Visit Malta, the Italian Institute of Culture La Valletta, and Creative Europe.
The 2026 Main Ensemble teachers are Anne Rab (Vienna), Mark Jane (Paris), Heyfa Limam (Brussels), Velvet Wells, Diana Brown (San Francisco), and Jim Libby (Vienna). Short workshop teachers include Lisa Lynn, Jen Hardy, Owen Scrivens, Ferran Luengo, Ahmed Achrafi, ImprompTwo (Joe and Kathy Rinaldi), and Alessio Granato.
Workshops range from 10-hour intensives led by Main Ensemble teachers to 3-hour sessions accessible to complete beginners. Most 10-hour and 5-hour workshops include a performance showcase. Workshops are bookable via Spazju Kreattiv's ticketing platform.
